East-side Indianapolis project & county wave

Moratorium
Indiana hosts Google, Meta, Microsoft and AWS projects

An east-side Indianapolis data center won approval in July 2026 despite community opposition, as the city advanced a data center regulation ordinance. Nearly a third of Indiana counties have adopted moratoriums, bans, or restrictions, according to July 2026 reporting. Update (Aug 2026): the City-County Council voted 23–1 for a moratorium on new data centers through the end of 2027 — exempting the three already-approved projects — while stricter zoning standards are written (Mirror Indy). Update (Oct 2026): more than half of Indiana's counties — at least 50 — now restrict data centers through moratoriums, ordinances, or prohibitions, up from about 30 in July (Indiana Public Media).
