Data center + gas plant proposal

The county planning commission sided with residents in late July 2026, recommending against rezoning ("No rezoning, no data center"), and the county council chair called for a temporary moratorium. Multiple South Carolina counties enacted moratoriums in June 2026 as a statewide siting bill stalled in the legislature. Update (Sept 2026): the county council approved the rezoning anyway on September 11, overriding the planning commission’s recommendation at a contentious meeting (WRDW).
