Data Center Backlash
Pinal County, Arizona

"La Osa Energy Center"

Rejected
Vermaland — 11 buildings, a 500 MW on-site gas plant, roughly 1 GW total demand

The Board of Supervisors voted 4–1 in August 2026 to deny rezoning near Eloy, where aquifer depletion and land subsidence have forced wells to 1,200 feet. Supervisors noted the county has no data center zoning definitions and most safeguards were the developer's own; residents are now pushing the county to write comprehensive rules before the next proposal.
